Hi everyone,

If you joined us at the Meddbase Meetup, you’ll already have had a preview from Mike and Jo on our new chart and graph features. We’re pleased to share that these are now available for you to use.

You’ll find more details below, along with two other improvements to payments and a new safeguard when sharing documents to the Patient Portal.

GRAPHS AND CHARTS
We’ve added new tools, and we’re bringing a few existing favourites back into the spotlight to help make your clinical forms more interactive, responsive, and clear.
New: Visual Charts in Forms and Documents

Add charts directly to forms and documents to make clinical data easier to explain.

  • Gauge: Show a risk score on a dial (e.g. BP or BMI risk)
  • Stack: See a result in a reference range
  • Bar: Compare values over time (e.g. dosage levels, weight, BMI)
  • Line: Show changes over time (e.g. weight or blood sugar history)
  • Colour styling: Quick visual risk indicators
All charts are interactive! Click to focus on specific data points or compare multiple metrics, such as BMI and weight, side-by-side.

Once built, you can add a chart to a document using: {Charts.CHARTNAME}
New: Calculations, Functions & Binding

Turn patient data into automatic insights.

Meddbase can now calculate values (like BMI), interpret them using logic (like risk scores), and display tailored advice based on the result, all within the form.

Calculations: Automatically work out values like BMI when you enter Height and Weight

Functions: Apply clinical logic—from simple rules (e.g. age + BP = risk level) to complex licensed algorithms (e.g. QRISK) provided by the customer

Example: If…
  • Blood pressure is 140–155
  • Ethnicity is Indian
  • Age is under 50
  • return: "Low Risk"
If same BP and ethnicity, but age is over 50 → "High Risk"

Binding: Display relevant advice or next steps directly in the form
  • “High risk male patient – consider referral”
  • “Moderate risk – review in 6–12 months”
  • “Low risk – routine monitoring”
In the below image examples:
Entering a resting heartbeat of 80 for an 18-year-old male automatically triggers a score of ‘Elevated’ - this is the Function working. The associated binding then shows relevant follow-up guidance in the form.
Entering a heartbeat of 70 for the same person automatically indicates normal range.
These tools reduce manual entry, improve consistency, and support safer, clearer decision-making.

Spotlight: Buttons in Clinical Forms (Existing Feature)

Jump straight to another form or section without scrolling. Helpful for:
  • Multi-part medicals and assessments
  • Grouping by clinical area (e.g. Respiratory, MSK, Mental Health)
  • Reduces scrolling and makes forms easier to manage
Spotlight: Visibility Rules (Existing Feature)

Show only the fields you need—when you need them.

Forms can adapt in real time based on earlier answers, keeping focus on the patient and reducing missed questions.

In this image, the question 'Why is the employee unfit to work' appears automatically when 'Unfit permanently' is selected from the drop-down.
Who Can Use These Features?

Charting and Smart Forms are available to all customers on a Core, Plus or Pro Meddbase plan.
  • There’s no additional charge for using these features
  • Charts do have to be created by the Meddbase team
  • The time taken to build a chart will come from your existing allowance
  • Once built, charts can be reused in clinical forms and document templates - template code  {Charts.CHARTNAME}
To get started:
  • Raise a support ticket with your request
  • Or speak to your Account Manager if you’re unsure of your plan
If you're not yet on Core, Plus or Pro, we’d be happy to talk through options.

PAYMENTS
Now Available: Opayo PI

More choice, better performance, future-ready payments.

We’ve added a new integration option with Opayo called Opayo PI.

You can continue using Opayo Server as usual, it remains fully supported and functional.

However, Opayo PI offers:
  • Better performance and improved recurring payment reliability as it takes repeat payment from the last successful transaction, not the original one, reducing declines
  • A platform ready for future features like Apple Pay and Google Pay
You can run Opayo Server and Opayo PI side-by-side while testing, then switch to PI when you’re ready. For full details follow our knowledge base article here.
SHARING DOCUMENTS
Extra Safeguard When Sharing Documents to the Patient Portal

A new optional safeguard is available when sharing documents to the Patient Portal.

When enabled, you’ll see a confirmation pop-up after ticking to share a document, asking:

“Are you sure this is the correct document you want to share?”
  • This helps reduce the risk of sharing the wrong file by mistake.
  • The feature is off by default and can be switched on for your chamber.
Please raise a support ticket if you’d like this enabled.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out, we're here to help.

Thank you
